What to do when someone dies? A question we will find ourself wondering at some stage in our lives.

If death occurs at home, a doctor should be contacted as soon as possible.  Then, once the doctor has given authorisation, we will take the deceased person into our care.  If death occurs in a hospital, hospice or nursing home, you can contact us directly and we will take care of all the practical matters.

When a death is sudden, unexpected or the result of an accident it will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for further investigation.  This will probably mean a delay of 2 or 3 days before we can help you make definite funeral arrangements.  However, if you contact us as soon as possible after death we can guide you through the whole process.

When you want to meet us to organise the funeral arrangements, we can come to you or you can come to us, whichever you prefer.

If you need help or advise on what to do when someone dies please Contact us, we are here to help.

Making the funeral arrangements

Andrew Anderson & Sons are here to support and advise you with funeral arrangements.

We will guide you through making the funeral arrangements, advise you of all the options and choices available and work with you to arrange the funeral that is personal to your family.

The person making the funeral arrangements is responsible for making decisions and signing all necessary paperwork, they are also responsible for arranging payment of the funeral.

Decisions you will need to consider when arranging a funeral:

  • Who should be informed of the death
  • Where the funeral is to be held

  • Burial, cremation or repatriation
  • What costs are involved
  • Coffin, casket and urn selection
  • Dressing the deceased
  • Where the deceased should rest prior to the funeral
